I took FLOAM contact details and got in touch with them. The organisation managed to help me to apply at 6 different universities and it also helped me to apply for funding. And they managed to help me to secure two bursaries, I had to make a choice which institution and bursary I want to use. I am now doing my first year at the University of Free State doing bachelor of Education majoring with Life sciences and technology with the help of FLOAM I managed to get this far. Thanks to FLOAM!!!!!!.

I am Victoria R Maphanga From ILILIBA in Tembisa. I attended high school at Masiqhakaze Secondary School. Growing up I wanted to be a doctor, I wanted to see myself working in the field of health science. When I was applying for admission at three universities namely, UCT, WITS and UJ I had three choices of careers which were medicine, physiotherapy and Biomedical Technology. After receiving my matric results, I didn't have enough points to do medicine which I grew up wanting to study it and the rest of my applications for the other fields took longer to receive responses from the three university I applied for. I then asked help to MR. Choma and he applied for me at Vaal University of Technology (VUT) for Biomedical Technology. The reason why I chose to study Biomedical Technology is because of it was so fascinating before my eyes, getting to work in a laboratory depending on one's specialty and it is more like you are doing a great job but behind the scenes. In the next ten years I see myself as a Biomedical Technologist having my own laboratory and giving back to the community and helping our very own black people to be entrepreneurs and be employed. I will still pursue my dream of becoming a doctor, in conclusion, one thing that keeps on motivating me is seeing how my future will be having accomplished all what I have been wanting.
